アルゼンチンの英雄ディエゴ・マラドーナ氏が、人気ゲームシリーズ「ウイニングイレブン」（海外では「プロエボリューションサッカー」）を制作するコナミに対して、自身の肖像権が侵害されたとして提訴していた問題が、決着の方向に向かったようだ。スペイン紙「マルカ」が報じている。

　事の発端は今年3月、マラドーナ氏が日本でも大人気のサッカーゲーム「ウイニングイレブン」シリーズに、無断で自らのデータと容姿を使用していたとして提訴。「オレはもう56歳だ。奴らがオレを騙すことなどできない。いいか、コナミ。君らは金持ちを食い物にしようとしているのだ」と自身のフェイスブックページに不満を書き連ね、騒動となっていた。

　厳しい態度を見せていたマラドーナ氏だったが、現地時間30日、自身のフェイスブックの公式ページを更新。「私は複数回のミーティングをした後、テレビゲーム企業のコナミと契約を結んだ」としている。

　アルゼンチン紙「クラリン」によると、マラドーナ氏は2018年と19年シリーズのゲームにおいて、100万ドル（約1億1000万円）の契約金を受け取るという。ただしマラドーナ氏は、すべての契約金で私腹を肥やすつもりはなく、一部をアルゼンチンのサッカー場建設及び老朽化した設備の修復に用いる予定だと伝えている。

　無断での肖像権利用に怒り心頭だったマラドーナ氏だったが、コナミから受け取ることになった契約金をサッカー界のために投資するという心意気を示している。

　質問自体はたったの3つ。だが、一つ一つの答えは本田の考え方が表れた実に興味深い内容だった。

　最初の質問は「ファンの期待値の高さを感じるか？」

　本田の回答はこうだった。

「期待値の高さもそうですけど、ファンがよりサッカーを知ることで、結果だけではなく、日本のスタイルはこうだというものが見えつつあるのではないかと思います」

　W杯に向けて、本田は一貫して攻撃的なスタイルにこだわってきた。昨年、コンフェデレーションズ杯で3連敗を喫し、国内の親善試合でウルグアイに惨敗したときも、ブレることはなかった。そして今、ザックジャパンは世界の強豪を相手にも自分たちが主導権を握り、攻撃的に戦うという“スタイル”を確立しつつある。

　ただ勝つのではなく、内容にこだわって勝つ。本田がどんなに批判を受けても最後まで信念を曲げなかったのは、その先に日本のスタイルが見えてくるという確信があったからだろう。
